Welcome to the 2009 Pirate's Cove Resort & Marina Sailfish Classic.
You’re invited to join a whole new team for the 21st annual Pirate’s Cove Sailfish Classic, December 3rd-6th, 2009! Along with the new faces, there are some changes to this year’s event schedule, so browse the site for all the details! Please note that the some new rules and observer requirements, along with other changes designed to bring the fun back to the Sailfish Classic as well as reinvigorate the competitive spirit between the teams. Most evening events are casual plus a few are even poolside! In addition, Pirate’s Cove will be hosting The Marketplace on Saturday from noon until nine. Be sure to visit the schedule for complete details. Finally, please join us in welcoming the St. Lucie River’s Coalition as the official charity for the Sailfish Classic. Their mission is to fight for a safe, healthy and ecologically balanced St. Lucie River Estuary and Indian River Lagoon. These natural resources are vital to the economy and quality of life of Martin County and the Treasure Coast. Several fundraisers will be held throughout the tournament, and representatives from the Coalition will attend the Awards Ceremony to receive our donation.
The 2008 tournament broke the overall record for fish released, with a total of 275 sailfish released during three days of fishing. Floridian was crowned the winner with 33 total releases, Big Oh took second with 30 total sailfish, and finishing in 3rd place was Bone Shaker with 26 sailfish. The total purse for the tournament was nearly $15,000 and we are hoping to exceed those numbers this year!
The 2009 Sailfish Classic is hosted by Pirate’s Cove Resort and Marina in beautiful Stuart, Florida. Pirate’s Cove boasts unique hotel rooms, each with a balcony overlooking the Manatee Pocket as well as remodeled interiors that elude a relaxing tropical feel. The full service 50 slip marina is an ideal spot to dock for the season or on an annual basis. The experienced crew is always available for assistance, even if you simply want to come on up to the Pirate’s Loft Restaurant for one of the tournament events!
